Alternative diet/drugs for Eczema

First, eliminate fuoride. If he uses ordinary toothpaste get an alternative fluoride free one. they are cheap enough online.
If you live in an area where the water is fluoridated there is no easy way to cleanse the water of fluoride additives to the system but a water distiller, reverse osmosis filtration system (though expensive) or a water filter like the brita filters at the very least. They also serve another function of removing other toxins like aluminium and other contaminants he might be sensitive too - aluminium once in the system also plays havoc and is adjuvant (over sensitive/over reactive) to the immune system. also eliminate deodorants that contain aluminium if he uses them and opt for and alternative - which you'll have to do a bit of searching for or just wash when needed.
Avoid all fizzy drinks opting instread for fruit juices - non concentrated forms if possible - also allow him to drink plenty of water when thirsty once youve sourced a good supply - but even bottled spring water has its own problems with bisphenol-A leaching from the plastics so it might be wise to avoid too.
Bath rather than shower - showers expose the body to more of the waters contaminants simply because more of the water comes into contact with the skin therefore absorbs more or irritates more as the case may be.
You could try adding magnesium sulphate (andrews liver salts, supermarket own brand are the same and cheaper) to bathwater - which is good for magnesium deficiency - couple of tablespoons.
Organic shampoo - far less harmful chemicals.
Foods - if you can buy organic as much as possible - less residual chemicals, antibiotics etc build up in the body.
Wash raw veg before consuming or preparing.
Veg that i would include in his diet - beetroot, asparagus, brocolli, carrots, cabbage, celery, onions, garlic and salads.
Also avoid processed foods as much as possible.
Avoid margarines, use unsalted butter instead as its fresher and add salt to taste.
Sea salt instead of processed table salt.

supplements that may help.
Milkthistle - liver
magnesium citrate, malate, aspartate or the chelated form, avoid the oxide form which is useless. (80% deficiency in the US - cant see why it would differ in the UK)
kelp supplemement for iodine (80% deficiency in the UK)
Zinc citrate or picolinate - definately with meals as can cause slight nausea but good for immune system
Selenium - in the form of (L-) selenomethionine - as he cant eat nuts
Vitamin C - vitamin c with bioflavonoids
flaxseed oil - omega 3
as with all supplements and anything else for that matter check that aspartame is not included in the ingredients.
which reminds me - only use real sugar (organic and unrefined is better) - definately not splenda.

Skin - any treament of the skin will only be temporary as eczema is a condition that is a reaction to either mineral deficiency or toxin accumulation or both. However the following may be of help.

Avoid suntan lotions - carcinogenic - contain benzene and associated compounds
avoid scented soaps - get olive oil based soap - castille soap is a good one or asda does a scentles soap for senitive skin which is much cheaper.
Asides from the things already mentioned like apple cider vinegar which is also beneficial taken internally too (dilute with water though as it can be harsh or add to fruit juice)
Aloe vera - real extracted aloe is the best as other additives are an unkown!
cold pressed organic coconut oil - can help - naturally astringent - can be take internally too as it has many benefits - can cause a herxheimerhttp://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=879355 reaction though so best to test.
Manuka Honey - contains powerful healing properties that can be effective in treating eczema
cold pressed organic avacado oil may also be of help http://www.buzzle.com/articles/avocado- ... czema.html

Overall - with things the way they are - all the above can be a nightmare to sift through let alone implement.
Please note that these are only suggestions of what i would look into and possibly follow through with.
Careful research and reading is essential to making any informed choices and taking control of your or anyone elses health issues. If you do decide to take responsibility for your own families health it will always be a steep upward learning curve as generally we rely on the so called expertise of health professionals (GPs) who are with some exceptions, drug peddlers for pharma corporations and therefore make little effort to find out about health issues ofr ourselves. So please make sure you research first esp re: vitamin use
I keep refering to curezone but there is simply no better resource on the internet for individuals who need to find out about most health issues in one place.

http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=7 for the eczema forum - read thouroughly and you'll soon start to identify what works for most people. Hope it might be of help!

Children with Eczema Healing Protocol

Hello,

My nieces were healed of severe (total body) eczema without the use of medications in two weeks. This occurred in their infancy and they have been eczema free for a majority of their young lives: 6 years (oldest niece), 4 years (middle niece) & two years (youngest niece).

Because we come from a family with an eczema heredity, we knew (from first hand experience) the dangers of the drugs used to treat eczema and was determined to find a different path (one that led to true healing) for my nieces. The very drugs that are prescribed to treat eczema are the very drugs that promote longterm eczema suffering, simply because they don't address the core cause of eczema. Physicians have been able to convince eczema patients that this is the only recourse in the treatment of eczema because they've classified a symptom manifestation as the cause. They've stated that the cause of eczema is an overactive immune system. That is not the cause; that is a symptom manifestation promoted by the cause. The cause of the overactive immunity is toxic overload. Going even deeper into the cause of the toxic overload is understanding the function of the digestive organs. However, and in any event, once you see the cause as toxins, then seeing your way to healing becomes more hopeful.

For the layman, the logical response to the knowledge that toxins are the major culprit of the eczema is to identify the toxins and rid them from the body. It is this logical or practical response that brought about my nieces longterm eczema freedom. The problem with the medical community regarding eczema patients is that they have failed to address the toxic cause and opted, instead, to suppress the symptoms. An eczema manifestation is the body's attempt to heal itself by ridding itself of this toxic overload; therefore, to suppress the eczema symptom is to suppress the body's ability to heal.

Toxins are eliminated and removed from the body through the bowels, urine, and skin. When an individual developes an eczema reaction, the goal should not be to suppress the symptom; the goal should be to work with the body to complete the healing process. The physicians response to suppress the eczema symptoms through medication is like removing the battery in a household smoke or fire alarm, in order to avoid the annoying sound. The purpose of the annoying sound of the smoke alarm is to warn the homeowner of impending fire. In the same way, the eczema reaction is sounded to alert the individual of the toxic dangers that were present internally, but not seen visibly by the naked eye. In essence, the eczema was shouting a need to address the toxins now before they become cancer later. This is why the suppression process (through medication) is so dangerous; it doesn't address the toxins, it simply ignores them (out of sight, out of mind).

By bringing understanding as to what the body is messaging with an eczema reaction, eczema becomes less fearful, and hope for healing, more obtainable. Internal, external, and foreign is a simple key phrase to remember when attempting to heal the body of eczema. Internal refers to restoration of the immune health through the proper nutrition and internal cleansing/detox. External refers to restoration of the skin's moisture barrier through natural skin care products that will promote the healing without harmful side effects. Foreign refers to identification and removal of the allergen/irritants promoting the toxic environment. All three of these need to be addressed in order to ensure complete success.

INTERNAL - Beta carotene is an immune booster. A diet rich in the foods that contain this essential nutrient is necessary for eczema sufferers. Green leafy vegetables (like kale, collard, spinach), broccoli, green & romaine lettuce, squash, sweet potatoes, and carrots contain this essential nutrient. In addition, the green vegetables also contain the fiber needed to improve the digestive health which is directly related to the immune health. Drinking plenty of water will also be key in the healing process. Besides provided oxygen to the cells, water also flushes the toxins from the body. There are several other nutritional deficiencies that are manifest with an eczema reaction. To learn what they are and to find out what foods your son can consume to replenish those essential nutrients, you can check out the following website:

http://www.wholehealthmd.com

Look at the "healing eczema with what you eat section". To address the cleansing/detox issues, I recommend the following cleansing program, All Natural Cleanse by Nature's Medicine:

http://www.allnaturalcleanse.com

EXTERNAL - The skin care product that worked for my nieces was the Burt's Bees skin care line. However, and because it contains natural fragrance, the better alternative for your son may be Colloidal Skin Therapy Lotion by Nature's Gate or Borage Skin Therapy lotion by Shikai. All of these items can be found at your local Whole Foods Market (a national health food chain). From hair care to skin care, these natural/organic products will work to promote healing without causing harmful side effects. The key will be in finding what product works best with your son's skin type without promoting an allergic reaction. The store provides testers so that he can test a small area of the skin for an allergic reaction before purchasing.

FOREIGN - Regarding your son's allergen/irritants (toxic culprits), the medications (like prednisone) prescribed to treat the eczema would fall into this classification due to the fact that the immune systems sees it as a foreign invader. Side effects are a result of this fight, along with an immediate reoccurrence of the symptom once the medication has run its course or is stopped. The body doesn't view this as medication; it views it as a toxin because of its toxic chemical/synthetic ingredient. Even those medications that claimed to be steroid free (and therefore better), have been linked to cancer (elidel & protopic). This is why natural skin care products that promote healing is the better external remedy for the skin.

Although the medications are a cause for the continued toxic environment in your son's body, they aren't the only cause. You stated that the eczema condition localized on your son's face started a year ago. Can you or he remember what promoted that flareup?

In addition to that, another reason for the continued toxic sensitivity on his face could be the chlorine or fluoride in your household water. You can remedy the problem of those toxic chemicals in the water, by purchasing water purification/filters for the shower head or bathroom faucets. Yet another major problem for the eczema irritation that would be localized to the face are Amalgam or metal fillings in the teeth. They would be producing high mercury levels in the body which would promote the persistent eczema suffering. Finding a dentist familiar with the field of natural dentistry would be the route to take in having those amalgam fillings removed and opting for a natural (less damaging) alternative. When you begin to understand eczema, you can then understand the body's attempt to help in the identification (of toxins/allergens/irritants) process through its localized or total body manifestations. I've focused on amalgam fillings and chlorine/fluoride in household water based on the information you've given me. In addition, and because I know of the cycle of suffering the medications perpetuate, I've had to include them in the continued suffering as well.

I want to reiterate that it was this practical approach to healing the skin that has achieved, in my nieces, an effect of eczema freedom that the doctors said was not available. Their simple response is that there is no cure for eczema; and therefore, symptom suppression is the only alternative. My nieces have proven that theory wrong. The correct statement is that modern medicine doesn't have a cure; which means, they haven't yet developed a medication that would permanently suppress the symptoms. I wouldn't want to use that type of cure if they came up with it. I don't want to suppress the body's ability to tell me when something is wrong. They also state there is no cure for the common cold; however, most people don't fear that prognosis. Why? Because the body heals itself; and therefore, why do you need a cure for what the body already cures on its own. This same premise applies to eczema. If you feed the body what it is asking for and remove the allergen/irritants promoting the toxic environment, then the body will be able to complete the healing process it started with eczema response. In a sentence; the difference between the doctors response to eczema and my family's response is that they chose to suppress/hide the symptoms and we chose to address/heal the body of the symptom. In other words; we chose to acknowledge what the body was saying and respond with wisdom, allowing the body to guide us in the process.

Please let your son read this as well. If he can get an understanding of what his body is saying, then he can begin to see that the hope for healing is a very real possibility for him.

aunty

p.s. Also regarding the internal, your son will need to focus on eliminating from his diet those foods that would prove to be detrimental to the immune system. They are processed foods high in saturated fats and synthetic sugars (junk food). Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages would also prove to be damaging to the immune system and compromise it's ability to fight. In essence, those things increase the strength of the foreign invaders (bacteria, candida, parasites, viruses). Another damaging effect to his already compromised immune health would be smoking.

The Best Christmas Present

Published February 1, 2007 Uncategorized 0 Comments

Occasionally I get letters that make me cry and celebrate at the same time. I received this letter shortly before Christmas — it was the best Christmas present I could have imagined. I hope this little boy has a normal life from now on:
-A.J. Lumsdaine

My name is Katrina Featherston and I have 2 sons, ages 8 and 3. My 3-year-old has always had smooth baby skin, but from the day I brought my first son home from the hospital, his skin was not smooth and soft. He has always had “sandpaper” skin even on his good days. He has spent his entire life living in misery because his skin continually itched and burned. At times he would cry. At times I would cry because it hurt my soul to see him suffer. Doctors never really offered any clear solutions to the problem. Food allergies were to blame. I have read every label in the grocery store. He spent the entire first 2 1/2 years of his life on a limited diet of chicken, apples, pears, barley and nutramigen formula. This diet did not even come close to solving his problems, but seemed to help him not bleed. He was classified as having severe atopic dermatitis.

I just happened to read your article about soaps versus detergents and saw a picture of your baby. Your baby looked just like my son. My son’s mouth was always red and scabby and his neckline would often bleed from his pajamas. At age 8, my son’s neckline reminds me of red leather and the pressure points behind his knees and elbows are often bloody.

I ordered laundry soap, bar soap, shampoo, and dishwasher soap from Cal Ben Soap Company last week. I started my son on these products last Tuesday. Last night he looked at me and said that he feels better now than he ever has. He said “Look Mommy, my tummy is soft.” I looked at him and his eczema is 90% gone. All without steroids, protopic, elidel, or creams. He looks better today than he ever has.

I am so thankful and grateful that my son’s eczema is on the healing road, but in the same breath, he has suffered for 8 years and no dermatologist, allergist, or pediatrician has ever suggested switching from detergent to soap.

Thank you so much for your insightful website and sharing your story. Sometimes the best advice comes from loving and caring moms.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Excema

[YEA]  04/02/2009: Amanda from Lakeside, Arizona writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar for Excema: My daughter who is now six years old has had excema since she was 5 weeks old. We have tried everything to cure her excema. She has it the worst on her cheeks and around her mouth. I finally found this website that said to use Apple Cider Vinegar. I thought we would give it a try. Two nights ago I gave her 1 tsp. in a glass of juice. She didn't like it but she tried it. Then we took a cotton ball and rubbed it all over her face. She said it stung for about a minute then it went away. I only did this once that day, then the next morning it was absolutely amazing. Her face looked better than it has in years. We did not even give her the APV orally yesterday we just rubbed it all over her face again before bedtime and this morning her face is completely cleared up. I have been calling every family member I know telling them about this. We have quite a few kids in the family that have excema that have had no luck. I am so grateful I found this website. Thank you."

[YEA]  01/25/2009: Bianca from Baton Rouge, La writes: "I found your website by doing a general search to find if acv could help my infant son with his eczema. My son has had it since he was a month and a half. After his 2 month vaccination, it went crazy. He has been prescribed every cortisteroid cream and even Elidel. He was given a four day dose of oral steroids. It cleared him up beautifully. A week later the eczema was back with a vengeance and worse than before. So I began to research. I started using acv on his skin two days ago and the eczema is drying up very fast and actually the dead skin is slowly peeling away. I have spent so much money on expensive lotions, creams, and whatever else he pediatrician advised. When I asked her about the acv...."Oh that stuff will never work," she said. Of course not. There's too much money to be made by prescribing all of the harmful medicines!!! I am a true believer of this stuff. This morning I gave him a teaspoon in about 3 ounces of apple juice. You can't even tell the difference in the taste. But without the juice... Whoa Mama, that stuff is strong! Everyone in the house will have daily doses of acv from now on. Thank you guys so much for the truth. My son's skin looks so much better already. He doesn't look like a little lobster anymore."

Baking soda method

1/4 teaspoon sodium carbonate along with 1/4 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate taken in a glass of water shuts down eczema in less than an hour. Problem solved, ignore all the posts here about eating raw meat for a cure, it is much simpler than that!
BTW sodium carbonate can be bought in any grocery store, it is made by Arm & Hammer and called Washing Soda (laundry isle), sodium bicarbonate is called baking soda (baking isle)also made by Arm & Hammer.

http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/eczema2.html

Most eczema, not all, are often a result of a fungus or mycobacterium that exists along the skin or some minute amounts leading to eczema. The condition is often metabolic acidosis which initiates the eczema, but at the same time the ACV have certain properties which may raise the immune system through its malic acid and mineral content found in the ACV. For example the malic acid is converted into malates which is used by the Krebs cycle giving more energy to the cells. If the energy to the cells is increased, the immunity is increased in the long term. The problem about ACV is it's acid content which does kill the fungus and mycobacterium by the actions of malates or organic components that leads to longer term alkalization. But since the body has insufficient bicarbonates to neutralize the acidity, the mycobacterium may cause greater growth when the body is temporarily acid in the short term, and hence the eczema. This eczema is the result of temporary metabolic acidosis.

There is a way to prevent side effects from ACV use by what chemist use to buffer the acidity to make it more alkaline in many consumer products and medicine we used. One of the simplest buffer is the baking soda, which raises the pH of the Apple Cider vinegar to a close 7 or 7.5 pH, which is closer to biologically active pH that doesn't support short term mycobacterium growth. Mycobacterium, fungus, and other usually flourishes in a more acidic pH. Therefore, this remedy was resolved mostly by taking 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider vinegar plus at least 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 or preferably 1 glass of water. Taken usually three times a day. However, if the conditions of eczema is present, usually I will raise the baking soda remedy from 1/4 teaspoon to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 2 tablespoons of ACV in 1 full glass of water taken at least twice a day instead.

However, I am not dealing with the fundamentals here. I have a bad history of eczema myself. In an attempt to understand the basic cause of eczema just for me I decided to take an experiment with a carbicarb remedy. The carbicarb remedy used by me is 1/4 teaspoon of sodium carbonate (washing soda...a precursor of baking soda) plus 1/4 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in one full glass of water taken twice or three times a day will stop the eczema within a matter of an hour at most. For me it stopped within a couple of minutes. Mycobacterium, fungs and bacterium won't generally grow whenever the body's pH is raised to an alkaline level. It is this reason why the Ocean's water is so sterile: salinity and alkalinity. The alkalinity of Ocean's water is 8.

As to where ACV comes in is that the malic acid raises the energy level of cells raising the immunity of the cells at the same time - the cells simply have more energy to fend off invading organisms. There may be other elements found in ACV, such as acetate, which has limited antifungal.

The problem about temporary eczema may go away with ACV use, but in some cases eczema may be persistent too. The issue appears that some people may have limited ability to neutralize the acidity from the ACV using the body's available bicarbonates to neutralized them and hence why baking soda was added to put less pressure on the body to come up with the bicarbonate currency to make it biologically compatible with the body's pH of 7.35. So some cases eczema may persists and some may get better, but if baking soda was added immediately before use, eczema wouldn't flare up, generally speaking.

Am I missing any other factors on eczema besides alkalization and immunity issues? One other additional fact is most people's diet, with industrialized farming practices, has caused humans, cats, dogs, cows, chickens, and pigs to have low level of omega 3. Low level of omega 3 didn't happen in humans first. It happened in farm animals. Chickens source of food were originally high in omega 3, if raise in the wild, but with modern methods, the omega 6 to omega 3 has risen lowering greatly omega 3. This happens in cows in U.S. as farming practices changed from grass fed to grain fed to economize. When we do that omega 3 goes precipitously down.

Omega 3 is responsible for immune conditions and anti-inflammatory properties and reduction in eczema. So much of the problems in the benefits of raw food of Pottinger Cats, and the eating of animal fats from Weston A. Price is useless since the animals we eat today (unlike Weaton A. Price's time) is that the omega 3 has droped precipitiously. So what we have now in U.S. is an Omega 6 to Omega 3 of 20: 1 instead of an ideal 4:1 or 1: 1 omega 3 to omega 6 ratios. Currently the country that has the highest known omega 3 is Japan at 4: 1 or Omega 6 to Omega 3. Fish oil is the supplements I would very likely take for my eczema besides just the baking soda be added to the apple cider vinegar.

However in a more severe cases of eczema I used a stronger alkalization method, which is commonly called the carbicarb remedy as mentioned already, which causes the eczema to go away in a matter of hours. As a hint to further reduction the use of dechlorinator of sodium thiosulfate added to drinking water may further help (chlorines and fluorine are pro-inflammatory) while sodium thiosulfate will at least neutralize the chlorine. A simpler way to remove chlorine is to add a couple of drops of 3% H2O2 per glass of water, such as 2-3 drops, which will neutralize the chlorine.

If there is anything i forget about the other cause of eczema, its that certain foods, such as wheat products, cheese tomatoes, aspartame, potatoes, peanuts, sugar, fruit juices (contains fructose), yeast product, peppermint in toothpastes, and other fermented products are some of the common causes of eczema due to the mycotoxin and fungus content found in these products. Interestingly the reason why antibiotics causes eczema is it is acid forming, raises free heavy metals, and has mycotoxins and fungus. Antibiotics is usually made from fungus, and hence it's no surprise that it causes eczema too. Meats now cause eczema because it raises the body's omega 6 as omega 3 is now reducing. So

I greatly doubt if unethical industrialized farming practices using GMO cows, pigs, chickens raised on grains, cannibalism and steroids injection is going to have much positive impact on practitioners of raw food diet, paleolithic diet, Atkins diet, eat right for your blood type diet, or any other similar diets fads if the foods we are now eating are toxic. The issue that pervades any dietary practice is to avoid bad industrialized farming practices (U.S. may be the worse), which is a lot simpler theory I proposed than the other guru diet fads. Much of my eczema comes from bad farming practices by corporate world. Now we have babies, dogs and cats to worry about because they eat from the same source of food which comes from processed foods and using the same bad farming practices.
Perhaps this is where some of the eczema is coming from.
